Ahoy Rotterdam is a unique venue in the Netherlands, because of the combination of an Arena, Exhibition and Event halls and a Congress and Meeting Centre. The Arena is mainly used for concerts, conferences, presentations, congresses, tournaments and trade fairs. The Exhibition and Event halls vary from 3,000 to 30,000 m2. In 2009 and 2010 the Ahoy arena is to be expanded and modernised. Ahoy Rotterdam is ideally suitable for accommodating the largest and most important table tennis event in the world, offering all the necessary facilities for both the participants and the organisation under one roof.

The 2011 WTTC are allocated to the The Netherlands Table Tennis Association. The organisation is contracted out to STN (Foundation of Table Tennis Events in The Netherlands). The 2011 WTTC are the most important opportunity for the NTTB to connect approximately 1.700.000 interested people in The Netherlands to the table tennis game and the World Championships. Purpose is to realise that a major part of those people are getting involved in table tennis (again). In an active way by taking part in the organised side-events before, during and after the event (tournaments, challenges, expositions, clinics, meetings etc.) and in a passive way by enjoying the game of the Dutch and world class players in Ahoy and via different media channels.

Rotterdam is the number one sports city of the Netherlands. No other city features as many (top class) sporting events each year. National, European and World Championships are scheduled next to annual events. Besides top class sporting events and clubs, thousands of people in Rotterdam train at least once a week in or at one of 400 sports clubs. Rotterdam exudes sports. The city has high ambitions and keeps working on an optimal sports climate. Rotterdam City of Sports has its policy program devised by the organisations Sports and Recreation, Rotterdam Topsport and Rotterdam Sportsupport. The policy program outlines specific themes in which Rotterdam should invest to be and to remain the sports city of the Netherlands.
