Bettine Vriesekoop: the face of the World Championships


As the World Championships Ambassador, Bettine Vriesekoop is the face of the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships (WTTC) in Rotterdam. Bettine Vriesekoop will be called in for all activities in which the WTTC are promoted. Bettine will thus be actively working for a successful World Championships.

Bettine is also intensively involved in the sponsor-finding effort for the World Championships. This is because of her knowledge, network and experience with the Chinese culture.

Bettine Vriesekoop on the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships:

“It will be a great World Championships with lots of media attention, cheering audiences and attractive matches, which will really set the Dutch audiences alight. I also expect table tennis to become more popular.”

Bettine Vriesekoop: a brief sketch


Bettine Vriesekoop is intrinsically linked with table tennis. Her performances as a top table tennis player, and her dedication to her sport, have been of great significance for top table tennis in The Netherlands. For twenty-five years she was vital to the image of the sport: she won many international and national titles and was twice chosen as Sportswoman of the Year. In 2000 she was elected Best Dutch Woman Table Tennis Player of the century.

During her career as a top table tennis player Bettine became fascinated with China and Chinese table tennis. What is their secret? Over the years, China and the Chinese, initially an obsession, have become a curious passion and love. During her training periods in China, her many trips, her study of sinology and her work as a correspondent in China for the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad, Bettine Vriesekoop has developed into a real expert on China.
