2 November 2010

The organization of the WTTC 2011 congratulates Kelly van Zon with her world title (singles class 7). Also Gerben Last deserves congratulations with his bronze medal (singles class 9).  These performances were delivered on the World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.

Kelly van Zon won the final with 3-1 from the Turkish Kubra Ocsoy. Kelly lost the first game with 10-12. After this she recovered and won thanks to her strong service the next 3 games with 11-8, 12-10 and 11-9.

Gerben Last won the ‘small final’, with 3-0 from the Hongarian Gylu Zborai. Gerben started aggressive and won the first game with a large margin (11-5). In the second game Zborai took the initiative and it got tough for Gerben. Eventually he also won this game with 12-10. In the third game Gerben increased the pressure and won with 11-7.

The organization hopes to welcome both players at the Dutch Open for disabled that will be organized parallel to the World Championship May 2011. This is an important tournament to earn qualification points for the Paralympics in 2012.
